What is CityQ?
CityQ is FlightQ's daily 3×3 city grid. Every cell combines a row clue with a column clue, and you must name a city that satisfies both. The categories can involve geography, history, climate, infrastructure, or other city characteristics.
There are nine guesses for the nine cells and no timer. You are aiming to complete the grid with accurate answers while keeping the rarity total low.
Matching the intersection
An answer is only valid if it meets both labels at once. For an illustrative cell combining national capital with coastal city, remembering a capital is not enough: you also need to know that it fits the coastal requirement.
The interface provides explanatory information for categories and supports city autocomplete, including common naming variations. Correct answers receive rarity scores, with less famous valid choices scoring lower. Lower is better, so an obscure city can outperform a very familiar one when both fit the cell.

- Read all the row and column labels before entering an answer.
- Open a category's explanation if its boundary is unclear.
- Select a cell and choose a city that satisfies both intersecting requirements.
- Continue across the board, checking your remaining guesses and matched cells.
- Complete the grid or finish the attempt, then compare the result and rarity total.
Tips for spending the nine guesses well
Start with the most restrictive intersections so you know where the real gaps in your city knowledge are. A confident ordinary answer is better than an obscure guess based on uncertain facts, especially with only nine attempts available.
For a stronger rarity result, think beyond national capitals: regional centers and smaller historic cities can fit many categories. Always check the definition before relying on a borderline case. A city associated with a famous nearby landmark may not necessarily satisfy a category about a site inside the city itself.
