What is Craft Connections?
Craft Connections turns the beloved NYT Connections formula into a pure Minecraft celebration. You're faced with a 4x4 grid of 16 Minecraft items — blocks, tools, mobs, resources, and more — and must sort them into four groups of four, each united by a sneaky hidden theme. One group might be "all nether-related," another "crafted with iron," while the toughest ones hide clever wordplay or deep game lore.
The challenge is delightfully adversarial and surprising: items that look totally unrelated suddenly snap together once you spot the link, leaving you with that satisfying "aha!" moment. It's strategic, a bit tricky on harder days, and endlessly replayable for anyone who has ever spent hours mining, crafting, or surviving in the blocky world.

Craft Connections Game Rules (The Catch / The Trap)
You are presented with a 4x4 grid containing 16 different Minecraft items.
- You MUST select exactly four items that share a common connection and submit the group.
- There are exactly four hidden categories to discover.
- Each correct group is removed from the grid and revealed with its category name (often with a difficulty color: easy yellow, medium green, hard blue, expert purple).
- You have a limited number of mistakes (usually 4) before the puzzle ends.
- A brand-new set of 16 items appears every day.
- You CANNOT submit incomplete or incorrect groups without costing a mistake — the game is strict about exact matches.
The trap? Minecraft has so many overlapping themes (colors, materials, biomes, crafting recipes) that it's easy to see false connections and burn through your mistakes on a group that almost fits.
How To Play Craft Connections?
Step 1: Scan the Grid
Study all 16 Minecraft items shown as icons or names in the 4x4 grid. Look for obvious patterns like shared materials, functions, or mob types.
Player Action: Mentally group items that seem related (e.g., all wooden tools or all redstone components).
Game Response: Nothing changes yet.
What You Learn: Initial surface-level connections or standout items.
Step 2: Submit Your First Group
Click or select four items you believe belong together and submit.
Example: You select Diamond Sword, Iron Sword, Golden Sword, and Wooden Sword.
Result: Correct! The group is removed and the category "Swords" (or a cleverer twist) is revealed.
Next Constraint: The grid now has 12 items left.
Step 3: Hunt the Next Connection
With fewer items, re-examine the remaining grid for new patterns that emerge.
Example: You spot several nether-related items and submit them.
Result: Correct again! Another category clears.
Next Clue: Only 8 items remain, making the final two groups both easier and trickier.
Step 4: Solve the Toughest Groups
Tackle the last sets, using any remaining mistakes carefully.
Result: All groups solved! The game shows all category names and your mistake count for the day.
Step 5: Check the Archive and Return Tomorrow
Review past puzzles or share your perfect solve streak with fellow Minecrafters.
Strategy & Tips
- Start with the most obvious groups (tools of the same material, same-color blocks, or basic resources) to clear space and reduce confusion.
- Look beyond the literal: connections often involve crafting recipes, biome associations, renewable vs non-renewable, or fun wordplay like "things that explode."
- If you're stuck, try grouping by what doesn't fit — elimination can reveal the hidden link.
- Save your mistakes for the hardest categories; don't waste them on near-misses.
- Play daily to sharpen your Minecraft knowledge — over time you'll spot obscure connections involving potions, enchantments, or deep game history.
Grab your virtual pickaxe and dive into the daily grid — one perfect group of four at a time!
