What is GeoOracle?
GeoOracle is a daily geography mystery in which a place describes itself in the first person. The answer might be a city, landmark, or region. Instead of beginning with a map outline, you read descriptive clues and can ask the place questions to narrow down its identity.
Everyone receives the same daily mystery, with a new one appearing at midnight UTC. The challenge is to solve accurately while using as little paid-for help as you need.
Clues, questions, and scoring
You start with 100 points and the first clue. There are up to five clues altogether: clues two and three cost 10 points each, while clues four and five cost 15 each. You may also ask up to three questions at 10 points per question. The replies stay in character and do not simply give away the place's name.
You have six free-text guesses. Each wrong answer deducts five points; solving preserves the remaining points as your score. The game accepts local and historical names and allows some minor spelling variation.
How to investigate the place
- Read the opening description and distinguish physical clues from historical or cultural ones.
- Form a small set of possible places rather than guessing the first recognizable name.
- If needed, reveal another clue or ask a focused question that separates those possibilities.
- Enter a place name and use any further information to revise your hypothesis after a miss.
- Solve within six guesses, then review the score and spoiler-free result.
Asking useful questions
A question about a defining feature is more helpful than asking the place to repeat its introduction. If several candidates share a riverside setting, ask about the historical role or a distinctive geographic feature that would distinguish them.
Track the point costs before requesting several hints in a row. A careful reread may connect two details you initially treated separately. GeoOracle is especially suited to players who enjoy interpreting clues and learning how geography, architecture, and history overlap.
