Poeltl

Poeltl
Think you know the NBA? Poeltl challenges you to guess the mystery player using stat-based clues that get sharper with every guess.
PlayWhat is Poeltl?
You know the players. The teams. The stats. But can you identify an NBA player from fragments alone?
Poeltl is a daily basketball guessing game inspired by Wordle, where each guess reveals structured clues about a hidden NBA player. Height, team, conference, position, jersey number—every detail becomes a breadcrumb leading you closer to the answer.
It’s not just trivia—it’s deduction. You’re not recalling one fact, you’re triangulating identity from overlapping data points. And the deeper your NBA knowledge runs, the faster you’ll crack the code.

Poeltl Game Rules (The Catch / The Trap)
You are trying to guess one mystery NBA player.
- 🏀 Each guess MUST be a real NBA player
- 📊 The game returns attribute-based feedback
- 🎯 You have a limited number of guesses (typically 8)
Feedback system:
- 🟩 Green → Exact match (correct team, position, etc.)
- 🟨 Yellow → Close (same conference/division or near value)
- ⬜ Gray → Not matching
Example:
Player Guess: "LeBron James"
- Team: 🟨 (same conference)
- Position: 🟩 (correct)
- Height: ⬜ (off)
- Jersey #: 🟨 (close range)
You’re not just guessing—you’re narrowing the field.
The trap?
- You MUST know modern NBA rosters
- Similar players can mislead you
- Stats overlap more than you think
How To Play Poeltl?
Step 1: Start Broad
Player Guesses: "Stephen Curry"
Result: Mixed yellow/gray feedback
What This Means: You now know the target shares some traits—but not all
Step 2: Adjust Direction
Player Guesses: "Luka Dončić"
Result: More yellow indicators
What This Means: You’re getting closer—same conference or position
Step 3: Narrow the Pool
You now focus on similar players (guards in same conference)
Player Guesses: "Devin Booker"
Result: 🟩 Position, 🟨 Team
Step 4: Lock It In
Player Guesses: "Donovan Mitchell"
Result: ✅ Correct!
Step 5: Reflect
You didn’t just guess—you filtered the entire league down to one name.

Strategy & Tips
- 🧠 Start with well-known players — maximize useful comparisons
- 📊 Use height and position first — fastest eliminators
- 🌍 Track conference clues — halves the league instantly
- 🔁 Think in player clusters — similar roles, teams, eras
- 🎯 Avoid random guesses — every guess should refine your model
Poeltl is where NBA knowledge meets logic. The real win? Getting it in fewer guesses than your friends.
