What is Citydle?
Your goal is NOT to guess the exact city on the first try—it's to survive the gauntlet of global clues and zero in on the hidden city using smart guesses and narrowing feedback. Citydle gives you six attempts to name the daily mystery city (usually a major one or capital). After every guess, you get powerful hints: the exact distance and direction to the target, plus color indicators showing whether you're right about the continent or country.
Why play? Because nothing feels more satisfying than nailing a tricky capital on attempt 3—or more humbling than realizing your "close" guess was actually halfway around the world. It's perfect for travel enthusiasts, map nerds, and anyone who wants to sharpen their global awareness while competing for daily streaks.
Citydle Game Rules (The Catch / The Trap)
You have exactly 6 guesses to identify the secret city. After each incorrect guess, the game reveals:
- The straight-line distance to the target city
- The direction arrow pointing toward it
- Color feedback: orange for correct continent, yellow for correct country, grey for neither
The real trap is the limited attempts combined with increasingly precise clues—the closer your guesses get, the easier it becomes, but one bad early guess can waste precious tries. You can guess almost any city in the world, but the daily answer is typically a well-known large city or capital.
How To Play Citydle?
Step 1: First Probe
Player Guesses: Paris
- Feedback: 5,842 km → (southeast), Continent: 🟠 (correct), Country: ⬜ (wrong)
- Result: Your guess is on the right continent but far away in the wrong country.
- What This Means: Europe is confirmed. The direction and distance give you a strong starting vector for the next guess.
- Next Move: Pick a major city in the right direction to narrow the search.
Step 2: Narrowing In
Player Guesses: Berlin
- Feedback: 1,234 km → (southwest), Continent: 🟠, Country: 🟡 (correct)
- Result: Much closer! You're now in the correct country and continent.
- What This Means: The target is somewhere in Germany. The reduced distance tells you it's likely a major German city.
- Next Move: Guess prominent German cities to zero in quickly.
Step 3: Precision Strike
Player Guesses: Munich
- Feedback: 412 km → (north), Continent: 🟠, Country: 🟡
- Result: Even closer, but still not there. Direction points clearly north.
- What This Means: You're in the right country and getting warm—the target is north of Munich.
- Next Move: Focus on northern German cities for the next guess.
Step 4: The Victory
Player Guesses: Hamburg
- Feedback: 0 km →, Continent: 🟠, Country: 🟡
- Result: ✅ Correct! You solved the daily Citydle on attempt 4.
- What This Means: Brilliant work. You've conquered today's mystery city with two guesses to spare and earned a solid score.
- Next Move: Share your result and come back tomorrow for a brand new city challenge.
Step 5: Tough Day Recovery Player Action: Reach attempt 6 with very small distance remaining
- Feedback: 28 km → (slight northeast)
- Result: ✅ Identified just in time on the final guess.
- What This Means: You survived a close call. Every near-miss sharpens your ability to read direction and distance clues for future days.
Strategy & Tips
Start with major cities on different continents or in well-known regions to quickly eliminate large areas. Once you hit the correct continent and country, use major hubs as stepping stones—the distance and direction arrows become incredibly powerful then. Pay close attention to how distance shrinks with each guess; it helps you decide whether to aim for big cities or more specific locations. Play daily to build your mental map of world capitals and major urban centers. The more you play, the better you'll get at recognizing patterns and making educated leaps across the globe.
