Mazetangle

Mazetangle is a daily path puzzle where you guide a red rectangle to the blue goal—but taking the shortest route is a mistake. Twist through as many tiles as possible while obeying a deceptively restrictive movement rule.

Mazetangle

What is Mazetangle?

Mazetangle looks like an abstract painting that has quietly decided to trap you. You control the red rectangle, the blue rectangle is your destination, and the surrounding white tiles form a maze with no conventional walls.

The catch is that reaching blue quickly is not impressive—it is usually a tactical surrender. Your real objective is to reach the goal in as many steps as possible, squeezing a long route from a board where some tiles may be impossible to include. New puzzles are provided regularly, making Mazetangle a compact daily test of path planning and spatial awareness.

Mazetangle Game Rules (The Catch / The Trap)

The board is built from differently sized rectangles:

  • Red tile: Your current position.
  • Blue tile: The finish.
  • White tiles: Potential steps in your route.

The movement rule is simple to read and surprisingly vicious:

You CAN move left, right, up, or down only when the red tile touches exactly one tile on that side.

For example:

text [ A ][ B ] ↑ [ RED ] → [ C ]

  • Moving up is blocked because the red tile touches two separate rectangles, A and B, along its upper edge.
  • Moving right is legal because it touches only one rectangle, C, on that side.

You are not hunting for the shortest exit. You MUST stretch the route before entering blue, but you CANNOT assume every white tile belongs to the solution. Reaching the goal too early can leave a huge portion of the board behind. Use Undo to retreat from a bad decision or Reset when the entire route has collapsed.

How To Play Mazetangle?

  1. Inspect the red tile

    text [A][B] [ RED ][C]

The top edge touches two tiles, so moving upward is blocked. The right edge touches only C, so you move right.

  2. Follow the legal opening

Player Action: Swipe right, tap C, or press the right arrow key.

Game Response: Your position advances to C, extending the route by one step.

  3. Resist the blue trap

    text [ C ] → [ BLUE ] ↓ [ D ] → [ E ]

Blue is already available, but entering it would finish with a short path. Move down through D and E first if their edges produce legal moves.

  4. Finish only after the detour

    Player Route: RED → C → D → E → ... → BLUE

Result: The game records the longer journey. Any untouched rectangles may represent missed opportunities—or tiles that could never fit into a valid route.

Mazetangle Strategy & Tips

  • Work backward from blue. Identify which tiles can legally enter the goal and preserve one of them for the end.
  • Count neighboring rectangles, not edge length. A huge shared edge can be legal, while a tiny edge divided between two tiles blocks movement.
  • Delay obvious exits. A direct path to blue is often bait.
  • Use the move hint. Tapping the red tile can reveal available directions when the geometry becomes difficult to read.
  • Accept imperfect coverage. Not every tile may be reachable, so judge routes by length rather than visual completeness.
