What is The Ball Grid?
The Ball Grid is a daily football trivia game built around a Premier League season. A 3×3 board combines row and column categories, which can involve attributes such as nationality, playing position, age, or season statistics. Each square needs a player who satisfies both conditions for the season shown.
The game has two modes: Classic Grid rewards less common valid answers, while Rapid Fire measures how quickly you can complete the board.
The rules that matter in both modes
You need nine valid placements, and the same player can be used only once per grid. The season is part of the question, so a player who fits a category at another point in their career may not fit the current board.
Classic gives unlimited guesses. Wrong answers do not deduct points, and rarer correct player selections earn more points. Rapid Fire uses speed instead of rarity; an incorrect guess adds a five-second penalty to your time.

How to play a daily grid
- Choose Classic Grid or Rapid Fire and note the specified Premier League season.
- Read the row and column categories for a square before selecting it.
- Enter a player who meets both criteria in that season.
- Fill the remaining cells while keeping the one-use-per-player rule in mind.
- Review the rarity score or completion time when the grid is finished.
Tips for season-specific answers
Start by identifying the intersections with the smallest plausible player pools. That helps you avoid using a uniquely suitable player in an easier square. In Classic, a reliable but less obvious squad member may produce a better result than the best-known star.
Rapid Fire calls for a different tradeoff: choose a name you are confident about rather than spending time searching for an obscure answer that carries no rarity benefit. In either mode, check transfers, club affiliation, and the displayed stat category against the exact season on the board.
