What is cardle?

Cardle drops you inches away from a mystery vehicle and asks a dangerous question: do you actually know cars, or do you only recognize them when the badge is visible? You have five attempts to identify the correct make, model, and approximate year from a cropped photograph.

Every failed guess reveals more of the vehicle, turning vague details—a headlight corner, a strip of chrome, an unusual vent—into increasingly useful evidence. Solve it early for maximum bragging rights, or survive until the final reveal and rescue your daily streak.

cardle Game Rules (The Catch / The Trap)

You receive one mystery car each day and only five guesses to identify it.

For every attempt, you must submit three details:

• Make: The manufacturer, such as Porsche or Toyota.
• Model: The specific vehicle, such as 911 or Supra.
• Year: The model year you believe appears in the photograph.

After submitting, Cardle grades each part separately:

Make: 🟢 Model: 🔴 Year: 🔴

• 🟢 Green: That part of the answer is correct.
• 🔴 Red: That part is wrong and must be reconsidered.
• Year tolerance: A year guess can count as correct when it falls within roughly two years of the answer.
• Progressive reveal: An incorrect attempt exposes more of the car, giving you a wider and usually more recognizable view.

The trap is that recognizing the manufacturer is not enough. You can identify the badge correctly and still be defeated by a similar model, facelift, generation, or production year.

How To Play cardle?

1. Study the first crop

   Visible: One round headlight, a sliver of chrome, and part of a curved hood.

   What you learn: It looks vintage, but several manufacturers remain possible.

2. Submit an opening guess

   Player Guesses: Ford Mustang — 1968

   Result: Make 🔴 | Model 🔴 | Year 🔴

   Game Response: The photograph zooms out and reveals more of the front fender.

3. Use the expanded silhouette

   New Clue: A long hood, compact cabin, and distinctive bumper suggest a Japanese sports car rather than an American muscle car.

   Next Guess: Datsun 240Z — 1971

4. Read the final feedback

   Result: Make 🟢 | Model 🟢 | Year 🟢

   The car is identified, the run is complete, and your score reflects how quickly you solved it.

cardle Strategy & Tips

Start with shape rather than badges. Examine the roofline, wheel arches, window proportions, lighting design, and bumper placement before committing to a manufacturer.

Once the make turns green, stop wasting guesses on rival brands. Concentrate on generation-specific details such as grille shape, taillights, trim, door count, and body style. For the year, aim for the middle of the generation first—the game's small tolerance gives you room to refine the exact date.
