What Is Crossnum?

Crossnum is a daily crossword with numbers instead of words. It combines arithmetic with the deduction of a logic puzzle. Free to play, no signup needed.

Instead of filling a crossword with letters and words, Crossnum asks you to complete a grid of interconnected number equations. Each answer can affect both a horizontal and vertical equation, so solving the puzzle requires arithmetic as well as logical deduction.

Crossnum Rules and Core Twist

The grid contains numbers, arithmetic operators, and empty cells. Fill the missing values so every connected equation is mathematically correct.

The key twist is that equations cross each other. A number that works in one equation must also satisfy the equation that intersects the same cell. This means you often need to compare several possible values and eliminate the ones that fail elsewhere on the board.

For example, if an equation is 3 + ? = 8, the missing value is 5. If that same cell is part of a vertical equation such as ? x 2 = 10, the second equation confirms that 5 is correct.

How to Play Crossnum

  1. Look for rows or columns with only one missing number.
  2. Calculate the value that makes the equation correct.
  3. Check the crossing equation to confirm that the same value works there too.
  4. Use confirmed numbers to narrow down the remaining possibilities across the grid.
  5. Continue until every blank is filled and all equations are correct.

Crossnum Strategy Tips

Start with the most constrained equations instead of working strictly from top to bottom. A row or column with one unknown value is usually the easiest place to begin.

Use intersections as extra clues. If more than one value seems possible in one equation, the crossing equation can often eliminate the wrong options.

Avoid guessing too early. Crossnum is built around deduction, so a difficult section will often become solvable after you complete another connected part of the puzzle.

Crossnum is a good choice for players who enjoy daily puzzles, arithmetic challenges, and logic games but want a number-based alternative to a traditional crossword.
