What Is Hemword?

Hemword is a daily 5 letter word game where the letters are revealed one at a time on a spinning cube. Every letter combination has at least two answers, so use skill, luck and strategy to reveal as many five letter words as you can. Score up to five stars, chase smug points (so satisfying!), and challenge friends to a group game with a live ladder.

How the Spinning Cube Works

The spinning cube is Hemword’s defining mechanic. Letters are revealed one at a time, gradually giving you more information about the five-letter words that may be available.

For example, an early stage of a puzzle might reveal only part of the useful letter information:

C → R → A → ? → ?

At that point, several words may still seem possible. As more letters are revealed, the set of plausible five-letter answers becomes easier to narrow down.

The important twist is that a combination is designed to have multiple answers. That means recognizing the first obvious word is not necessarily the end of the challenge. Players are rewarded for continuing to look for additional possibilities.

How to Play Hemword

  1. Start the daily Hemword puzzle. Each day’s challenge revolves around finding five-letter words from the game’s letter combinations.
  2. Watch the cube reveal letters one at a time. Use each new letter as another clue toward possible five-letter words.
  3. Look for multiple valid answers. Every combination has at least two answers, so keep searching even after one word becomes apparent.
  4. Try to maximize your result. Reveal as many five-letter words as possible to work toward a five-star score and opportunities for Smug Points.
  5. Compare with friends if you want a competitive game. Hemword supports group games with a live ladder, allowing players to compete against one another as results come in.

Stars and Smug Points

Hemword gives each puzzle more replay and competitive appeal through its scoring system. Players can earn up to five stars, providing an immediate indication of how well they handled the day’s combinations.

Smug Points add another layer to the challenge. They are intended as especially satisfying bonus achievements for players who spot opportunities beyond the most straightforward answers. For regular players, chasing these points creates a reason to think longer about a combination rather than stopping after finding the first valid word.

Group Games and the Live Ladder

Hemword can also be played socially. Players can challenge friends to a group game, where results are displayed on a live ladder.

This turns the daily puzzle into more than a solo vocabulary exercise. A group can play the same challenge and follow the standings as everyone works through it, making Hemword well suited to small friend groups, families, or coworkers who enjoy comparing daily puzzle results.

Hemword Strategy Tips

Because each letter combination has multiple valid answers, avoid locking onto the first word that comes to mind. Once you recognize one five-letter word, deliberately search for alternatives using the same available information.

Pay attention to common English structures such as frequent consonant pairs, vowel placements, and endings like -ER, -ED, or -Y. As each new letter appears on the cube, reconsider earlier assumptions rather than simply adding the new letter to your first guess.

For higher scores, treat each combination as a small word-search problem rather than a single-answer guessing game. Finding an obvious answer quickly is useful, but finding the less obvious alternatives is where Hemword’s strategy and Smug Point hunting become more interesting.
