What is Mystery-O-Matic?
Mystery-O-Matic serves a free daily murder mystery you can often crack in about five minutes. You reconstruct movements across connected rooms, weigh truthful (or optionally lying) statements, and accuse the killer with the right weapon and time.
Puzzles are synthesised rather than hand-authored along a single scripted path, so difficulty and red herrings vary. The project is open source and still labeled beta.
Rules and core twist
- Determine who did it, when, and with which weapon.
- Suspects move between connected rooms on a 15-minute grid; bodies stay put after the murder.
- Statements are truthful in easy mode; harder mode lets the killer lie carefully.
- Each clue you reveal can lower your sleuth-o-meter rank; wrong accusations also hurt the loop score.
- Available with English, Spanish, and Russian versions.
How to play
- Open mystery-o-matic.com and jump into the English daily (or your language).
- Choose No lies or Lie to me, then study the map, weapons, and end-of-timeline positions.
- Collect statements and mark the timeline board with present / absent / unknown.
- Eliminate impossible killers, times, and weapons using movement constraints.
- Make your accusation; return tomorrow for a new synthesised case.
Tips
- Track forced paths: if someone arrives in a room at time T, they must have come from a connected room at T−15.
- Eliminate weapons by wound type and by which rooms the suspected killer never visited.
- In liar mode, hunt contradictions between statements — exactly one of a conflicting pair may be the killer.
