What is Nerdle?

Nerdle is a mathematical version of Wordle where players must guess a valid equation within 6 attempts. The game combines numbers, operators, and logical reasoning.

Each day features a new equation, and all players solve the same puzzle.

Nerdle Game Rules

  1. Objective: Guess an 8-character mathematical equation in 6 attempts
  2. Equation Format: Must be a valid equation in the format number operator number = result
  3. Operators: Can use +, -, *, /
  4. Color Feedback:
    • 🟩 Green — Correct digit/symbol in correct position
    • 🟪 Purple — Correct digit/symbol in wrong position
    • ⬜ Gray — Digit/symbol not in the equation
  5. Rules:
    • Equation must be valid (e.g., 12+34=46)
    • Must follow order of operations (multiplication/division before addition/subtraction)
    • Cannot start with 0 (unless it's 0 itself)
    • Must contain one equals sign =

How To Play Nerdle

Let's walk through an example (assuming the answer is 15+27=42):


Guess 1

Player Guesses: 10+20=30

Feedback:

  • 1 ⬜ — Not in equation
  • 0 ⬜ — Not in equation
    • 🟩 — Correct!
  • 2 🟪 — In equation, wrong position
  • 0 ⬜ — Not in equation
  • = 🟪 — In equation, wrong position
  • 3 ⬜ — Not in equation
  • 0 ⬜ — Not in equation

Analysis: + is in the correct position, 2 and = are in the equation but wrong positions.


Guess 2

Player Guesses: 25+17=42

Feedback:

  • 2 🟪 — In equation, wrong position
  • 5 🟪 — In equation, wrong position
    • 🟩 — Correct!
  • 1 🟪 — In equation, wrong position
  • 7 🟪 — In equation, wrong position
  • = 🟩 — Correct!
  • 4 🟩 — Correct!
  • 2 🟩 — Correct!

Analysis: Result =42 is correct, + is correct, but left side numbers are in wrong positions.

Player Guesses: 15+27=42

Feedback: All 🟩 — Correct!

Success! Guessed the equation in 3 attempts.


Nerdle Strategy Tips

  1. Starting Equations: Use equations with common digits like 12+34=46
  2. Simple Operations: Try addition and subtraction first - they're easier to construct

  4. Number Range: Results are typically between 0-99
