What is Overheard game?
Overheard game is a daily deduction game about social context. You see part of a written conversation and choose the relationship that best explains it: the speakers might be colleagues, relatives, strangers, or another pairing among the displayed options.
The puzzle is short, but the wording matters. A line that sounds friendly, tense, or formal can take on a different meaning once you understand what the speakers share.
More dialogue, limited guesses
A conversation contains up to six lines, revealed one at a time. You can make a relationship guess when you feel ready or reveal the next sentence for additional context.
You have three guesses. Incorrect relationship choices are crossed out, letting you reconsider the remaining options. Read the dialogue as evidence for a relationship, not as a word you must spell or an audio clip you need to recognize.
How to play
- Open today's Overheard game puzzle and read the first visible line carefully.
- Compare the available relationship labels and consider which ones could plausibly explain the exchange.
- Reveal the next sentence when the existing evidence still fits several options.
- Choose a relationship. If it is rejected, note the crossed-out option and reassess the conversation with your remaining guesses.
- Continue using the available lines until you identify the pairing or exhaust the three guesses.
Read the interaction, not just the topic
Imagine a line mentioning a work presentation. That topic alone would not prove the speakers are coworkers: a sibling, friend, or former partner might also know about it. A later reply showing workplace authority or direct involvement would be more specific evidence.
This is an illustrative reading strategy, not a quotation from today's puzzle. Look for what the speakers assume the other person knows, whether they share responsibility, and how one responds to the other's tone.
Avoid treating one ambiguous phrase as a complete answer. When two labels still fit, the next line may distinguish them more efficiently than spending a guess.
