What is Past Puzzle?

Past Puzzle takes the familiar tension of a daily guessing game and sends it charging into history. Instead of hunting for a word, you must identify a mystery year using short descriptions of historical events that all happened during that same year.

You have four guesses, but information arrives gradually. Enter a year, study the colored digit feedback, and use each newly revealed historical clue to tighten the trap. Solve early and you conquer the past with minimal help; miss all four attempts and the mystery year escapes.

Past Puzzle Game Rules (The Catch / The Trap)

The daily battle follows this loop:

HISTORICAL CLUE → GUESS A YEAR → READ THE DIGITS → NEXT CLUE

• One mystery year: Every historical event shown belongs to the same answer year.
• Four event clues: Additional clues help you narrow the answer as the puzzle continues.
• Four attempts: You MUST enter the exact year before your final guess is used.
• Green digit: Correct number in the correct position.
• Yellow digit: Correct number, but placed in the wrong position.
• Red digit: That number does not appear in the answer.
• One new puzzle daily: The regular challenge changes at midnight.

The trap is that the colors judge individual digits, not whether your whole year is simply earlier or later. A yellow 8 means the answer contains an eight somewhere else—it does not mean you should move forward eight years.

Step 1: Read the first event

Clue: A wave of revolutions spreads across Europe.

You recognize the nineteenth-century setting but cannot remember the exact year.

Step 2: Enter an opening guess

Player Guesses: 1884

Feedback:

What This Means: The answer starts with 18. The final 8 and 4 both belong in the year, but they occupy the wrong positions.

Step 3: Rearrange the surviving digits

The feedback has almost solved the numerical puzzle for you:

18 + 4 + 8 = 1848

A second historical event appears and supports the same period.

Step 4: Lock in the answer

Past Puzzle Strategy & Tips

Treat the history clue and the colored digits as two separate puzzles. First estimate the likely century or decade from the event, then use the digit feedback to construct the exact year.

Pay close attention to repeated numbers. A year such as 1919 contains two ones and two nines, so duplicate digits can make yellow and red feedback more deceptive than expected.

Do not waste a guess by changing every digit at once. Preserve green positions, move yellow digits deliberately, and replace only numbers that have been ruled out.

When the event is unfamiliar, search your memory for its broader era. Clothing, inventions, wars, political movements, and famous people can often reveal the century even when the precise date is hiding.
