SortWise

SortWise
SortWise is a quick daily timeline challenge where you place six cards in chronological order, one decision at a time. Correct placements earn stars, and collecting three is enough to win the day.

What is SortWise?
SortWise hands you a card, points toward a growing timeline, and quietly asks whether you truly know what came first. Your mission is to place six events, dates, or facts into chronological order, building the sequence one card at a time rather than rearranging everything at the end.
That small difference creates the pressure. Every drop becomes a commitment, correct placements earn stars, and you need at least three stars to claim victory. It is compact enough for a two-minute break but dangerous enough to expose every historical assumption hiding in your brain.
SortWise Game Rules (The Catch / The Trap)
The daily SortWise loop looks like this:
BLUE CARD → CHOOSE A GAP → DROP → GREEN OR RED → NEXT CARD
- Six cards complete the game: The challenge ends once all six cards are on the timeline.
- Place cards chronologically: Drag each card into the position where it belongs from earliest to latest.
- Blue means waiting: A blue card is the current item awaiting your decision.
- Gray means already placed: Gray cards are existing timeline anchors and do not appear in the shared result.
- Green means correct: The card was placed in the right chronological position and earns a star.
- Red means incorrect: The chosen position was wrong and does not earn a star.
- Three stars win: You do not need a flawless run, but you MUST earn at least three correct placements.
- A fresh puzzle appears daily: Each day brings a new sequence to survive.
The trap is that SortWise tests relative order, not isolated dates. Knowing that two events both occurred in the twentieth century is only the beginning; you must decide which side of every existing card the new event belongs on.

How To Play SortWise?
Step 1: Read the existing timeline
Gray anchors:
Printing press → Moon landing
Blue card: First powered flight
The flight happened after the printing press but before the Moon landing, so the middle gap looks safe.
Step 2: Drop the first card
Player places:
Printing press → First powered flight → Moon landing
Result: GREEN — ★ earned
What this means: The chronological position was correct, and the timeline now gives you a stronger set of anchors.
Step 3: Extend the modern end
Next blue card: World Wide Web proposal
Player places:
Moon landing → World Wide Web proposal
Result: GREEN — ★ earned
You now have two stars and need only one more correct decision to win.
Step 4: Fall into the historical trap
Next blue card: Magna Carta
You place it after the printing press.
Result: RED — no star
What this means: Magna Carta belongs earlier in the timeline. The mistake hurts, but the game continues.
Step 5: Secure the third star
Final blue card: First iPhone
You drop it after the World Wide Web proposal.
Result: GREEN — ★ earned
The sixth card completes the timeline, your third star locks in the win, and the daily SortWise challenge is finished.
SortWise Strategy & Tips
Start by comparing the current card with the nearest obvious anchors. You rarely need the exact year; deciding whether it belongs before, between, or after the visible events is often enough.
Use inventions and dependencies as logical clues. The technology behind an event usually had to exist before the event itself, while launches, sequels, treaties, and consequences naturally follow their causes.
Do not chase perfection after one red card. SortWise only requires three stars to win, so recover quickly and treat every remaining card as a fresh chance to rescue the run.
When uncertain, think in broad eras first: ancient, medieval, industrial, twentieth century, or digital age. Once the era is clear, compare the card with the closest event already sitting on the line.
