What is Semantle?
Semantle is a unique word guessing game where players must identify the target word based on semantic similarity rather than letter matching. Unlike Wordle, Semantle doesn't care about letters - it cares about meaning.
The game uses AI language models to calculate semantic similarity between words.
Semantle Game Rules
- Objective: Guess the target word of the day
- Unlimited Guesses: No limit on attempts
- Semantic Similarity: After each guess, the game shows a similarity score between your word and the target
- Score Range: -100 to 100, higher scores mean closer similarity
- Ranking Hint: When similarity is high enough, shows your word's rank among the 1000 most similar words
- Daily Word: All players guess the same word each day

Semantle Strategy Tips
- Broad Exploration: Start by trying words from different categories (animals, colors, emotions, etc.)
- Semantic Association: When you find a related word, think of synonyms and related concepts
- Word Form Changes: Try different forms of the same root (e.g., happy → happiness)
- Context Thinking: Consider contexts where the word typically appears
- Use Rankings: When you enter the top 1000, systematically try related vocabulary
Semantic Similarity Examples
If the target word is doctor:
nurse — High similarity (related profession)
hospital — Medium-high similarity (related location)
medicine — Medium similarity (related field)
health — Medium similarity (related concept)
car — Low similarity (unrelated)
Common Traps
- Homophones: Words that sound similar but have different meanings (e.g.,
sea vs see)
- Spelling Similarity: Words with similar letters but different meanings (e.g.,
cat vs car)
- Over-Specificity: Very specific words may have lower similarity than general terms
- Cultural Differences: AI models may understand certain culture-specific concepts differently
