What Is Tusmo?

Tusmo is a French browser word game built around the familiar Motus-style deduction format. Each puzzle asks you to identify a hidden word in no more than six attempts. The first letter is revealed before you begin, so the challenge is less about finding any possible opening word and more about exploring the vocabulary that fits that starting letter.

Tusmo works especially well for players who like short daily puzzles, French vocabulary challenges, and games where every guess produces useful positional information.

Rules and Core Twist

The core rules are straightforward:

  • You get 6 attempts to find the mystery word.
  • The first letter is already given.
  • Your guesses must begin with that same starting letter.
  • Red means the letter is correct and in the correct position.
  • Yellow means the letter appears in the word but is in the wrong position.
  • Blue means the letter is not in the target word.

A simplified clue example looks like this:

M A R I N E

  • 🔴 M — correct position
  • 🟡 A — in the word, but somewhere else
  • 🔵 R — not in the word

The important Tusmo twist is the fixed opening letter. Because every accepted guess must respect it, you cannot freely choose a completely unrelated probe word just to test common letters.

Tusmo also offers longer daily formats, including a sequence-style challenge where players solve several words rather than stopping after a single puzzle.

How to Play Tusmo

  1. Check the starting letter and word length. Before typing anything, note how many letters the answer needs and which first letter Tusmo has already locked in.
  2. Enter a valid French word with that first letter. A useful early guess should test several common vowels and consonants rather than repeating the same letter unnecessarily.
  3. Read the color feedback. Keep red letters fixed, move yellow letters to new positions, and avoid blue letters unless a duplicate-letter situation gives you a reason to reconsider them.
  4. Narrow the pattern. Use the confirmed positions and remaining letter possibilities to build a smaller set of realistic French words.
  5. Solve before attempt six. If you identify the word, the puzzle is complete; otherwise the round ends after your sixth guess.

Strategy Tips

Start with a word that fits the required first letter while covering a broad mix of common French letters. Tusmo rewards information-rich guesses because you cannot change the opening letter to use a generic starter.

Treat yellow letters as positional clues, not just confirmation that a letter exists. Moving two or three yellow letters into fresh positions at once can eliminate several candidate patterns quickly.

Once you have multiple red letters, stop spending guesses on broad exploration and switch to likely completions. With only six attempts available, late-game guesses should usually test complete candidate words rather than isolated letter ideas.

If you enjoy a longer challenge, try one of Tusmo's multi-word daily modes after the standard puzzle. It keeps the same deduction loop but extends the session across several words.
