What is What's the Book?
What's the Book? is a daily literary guessing game. One shared book title appears as blanks, and you reveal it by choosing letters. The title's spacing gives you a starting clue without requiring an immediate whole-title guess.
The presentation turns your remaining mistakes into pages of a book. Saving the title with more pages intact earns it a better-looking place on your personal shelf.
Six pages and two costly clues
A correct letter fills every position where it appears. Spaces, apostrophes, and numbers are visible from the beginning. Each wrong letter removes one of the book's six pages; losing all six means losing that book.
Two catalogue cards offer extra information: one reveals the author, and the other reveals all the vowels in the title. Each costs a page, and neither can spend your final remaining page. There is no separate points system: the pages left are the result that matters.
How to play
- Choose Play today and inspect the lengths and spacing of the title's words.
- Guess a letter that could reveal useful parts of the pattern.
- Read every newly filled position and eliminate title ideas that no longer fit.
- If needed, spend a catalogue card while you still have enough pages to afford it.
- Reveal the title before the last page disappears and check whether the book joins your shelf.
Spend pages for information
An illustrative pattern such as _ _ _ _ _ _ _ tells you the word lengths, but many titles may fit. A letter occurring several times can narrow the possibilities much more than an isolated uncommon consonant.
Treat a clue as an information purchase. If the author would immediately distinguish your two strongest ideas, that card may be useful. If the title's shape is still almost blank, revealing vowels may give you more structure. Avoid burning pages by repeatedly guessing letters from an early hunch after the pattern has contradicted it.
