What is Dowsle?

Dowsle is a daily word-finding game that gives two different signals for each guess. Meaning measures contextual similarity, while Spelling responds to how the letters and their arrangement compare with the hidden answer. A useful guess can be close on one side and distant on the other.

How to play Dowsle

  1. Enter an opening word in the guess field.
  2. Read its Meaning and Spelling feedback separately.
  3. Use promising meaning feedback to test related concepts or words used in similar contexts.
  4. Use spelling feedback to explore overlapping letters, lengths and arrangements. Combine both types of evidence when choosing the next word.
  5. Keep narrowing the search until you find the answer, or use the available Meaning Hint and Spelling Hint controls when you need direction.

Two signals, two different questions

Meaning similarity is based on a word model, so it does not behave exactly like a thesaurus. Contextually associated words can be close even when they are not interchangeable. Spelling feedback concerns letter structure, rather than a set of individually confirmed Wordle positions.

For a hypothetical target of train, railway suggests the same subject while trail shares much of its spelling. That distinction illustrates what to look for; it does not predict the numerical rankings the game would return.

Keep two short lists in mind: concepts that are getting closer and letter patterns that are getting closer. If several words improve one side while harming the other, try a word that bridges the two lists. Avoid treating a single green result as proof that you already know the whole answer structure.

Vary your opening probes. Five near-synonyms can tell you less than a few words from different subjects. Once a useful topic emerges, become more selective: test a related action, an object and a broader category, then compare the results.

The official explanation describes additional discoveries, including a “gem” word that is close on the combined meaning-and-spelling measure. Those extras give interested players a reason to explore beyond finding the main answer. Start with the daily target before worrying about collecting every bonus discovery.
