What is Fissle?
Fissle is a browser word puzzle about clearing a shared daily grid with as few words as possible. Its reactor theme gives each move a cost: a valid word uses a fuel cell and turns its letters into spent slag. The challenge is deciding which connected words will clear the board without wasting your allowance.
The standard Daily Puzzle uses 16 tiles. It is a good fit for players who enjoy spotting words and then using feedback to improve a plan, rather than racing through a long vocabulary list.
Fuel, connected letters, and slag clues
Letters must touch along your word's path; diagonal connections count. The daily fuel budget is the ideal number of words plus four spare cells. A normal four-word puzzle therefore starts with eight cells. Invalid words do not spend fuel, but hints do.
Slag is information. Green identifies a correct letter position within an ideal word; yellow identifies a letter that belongs elsewhere in that word. Matching tints and slot-number colors help group related letters. Clear every live tile before the cells run out. Remaining fuel determines your efficiency rating.
How to play the daily puzzle
- Open Daily Puzzle and inspect the grid and fuel allowance before swiping.
- Trace a valid word through neighboring letters, including diagonals where useful.
- Read the resulting slag and compare the remaining live letters with its clues.
- Choose the next word to clear useful tiles without spending too many spare cells.
- Finish the core and review your rating, or return for the next daily challenge.
A useful way to think about a move
On a standard day, clearing the grid in four accepted words uses four of eight fuel cells. Clearing it in six uses six. A short word can provide information, but its fuel cost is the same as a longer one: inspect what it leaves behind before committing.
Wednesday can change the number of hidden words, and Friday introduces gravity. The separate Themed 5×5 mode has different rules, so do not carry the daily fuel strategy into it unchanged.
