What is Griddles?
Griddles is a daily category-word puzzle site. Choose a topic, then divide a grid's letters into the hidden answers for that category. Its current collection offers 18 categories and three difficulties, making 54 daily puzzles available.

Topics include places, sports teams, foods, and scientific vocabulary. Category knowledge gets you started, but fitting every answer into the available letter supply is the central challenge.
Use the whole letter supply
Letters do not have to touch. Select them from anywhere in the grid to spell an answer. Each tile is used once, and letters assigned to one answer cannot also supply another. The goal is to use all the letters with none left over.
Easy uses a 4×4 grid. Normal and Hard use 5×5 grids; harder puzzles can introduce rarer items and multi-word answers. The site explains that a plausible category word can still block the intended complete solution, so consider what letters remain after a choice.
How to play
- Choose a category and difficulty, then read how many answers the board expects.
- Scan the letters for a category word, remembering that adjacency is irrelevant.
- Tap or click its letters and submit it; use the colored found-word markings to track consumed tiles.
- Build the remaining answers from unused letters, reconsidering choices that leave an impossible remainder.
- Finish the grid and review your time and hint use on the daily result.
Plan beyond the first word
If a candidate needs two copies of a letter, confirm the grid actually has both available. A familiar answer is not enough when it consumes a letter another required answer needs. Rare letters can help identify the most constrained word first.
Three hints are available: two reveal an answer's first letter, and one reveals the lengths of remaining words. Hints affect leaderboard placement, so use one for a specific uncertainty rather than opening all of them immediately.
Today's puzzles are free and do not require an account. Accounts support saved progress across devices; historical puzzles are part of the premium offering.
