What is What's the Word?
What's the Word? is a word-deduction game with four attempts and four optional clues. The blank board tells you the answer's length, and each submitted guess must be a real word of that length. You can use the clues from the start without spending points.
Daily Word gives everyone the same puzzle. Practice offers additional rounds when you want to keep playing.
What the four clues reveal
The first clue is a synonym of the answer. The second gives a word whose first letter matches the answer's first letter. The third does the same for the final letter, using the end of the clue word. The fourth reveals the answer's vowels in their actual positions.
These clue words have different jobs. The second and third are letter indicators, so you should not assume their meanings describe the answer. Combine them with the synonym and vowel pattern to narrow the possibilities.

How to solve within four attempts
- Start Daily Word or Practice and note how many letters the answer needs.
- Reveal whichever clues will help you form a plausible candidate; all four are available without a score penalty.
- Submit a real word of the required length.
- Use the colored feedback to distinguish correctly placed letters, letters in another position, and absent letters.
- Combine that feedback with the clue meanings and letter pattern before making the next guess.
A practical clue-reading approach
As an illustrative example, a synonym clue of joyful, a first-letter clue of house, and a last-letter clue of sky could suggest HAPPY for a five-letter answer. That example shows why you need the first letter of house and the last letter of sky, not a word associated with both objects.
Because guesses are limited, avoid entering a candidate that already contradicts a revealed clue. If several synonyms remain, the vowel positions can be the most efficient way to separate them. Recheck repeated letters as carefully as you would in any other letter-feedback puzzle.
