Wordcrawl

What is Wordcrawl?

Wordcrawl is Puzzlebun's daily word-path puzzle. Start at the circled letter in the top-left corner, build a chain of words through the grid, and reach the circled exit at the bottom-right.

Reaching the exit is only part of the challenge. You want to cover as many letters as possible, and the official introduction says every grid can be covered completely. A short route can therefore be a starting result to improve rather than the most satisfying finish.

Words form a route

Trace words of at least four letters through neighboring tiles; horizontal, vertical, and diagonal moves count. Each new word begins with the previous word's final letter. Apart from that shared joining tile, you cannot reuse a tile already in the chain or repeat a tile within a word. The found-word list records what you have built.

The board provides Undo, Redo, Reset, and Hint controls. These are useful because a locally attractive word can leave you in an awkward part of the grid. An earlier choice may need to change before a longer route becomes possible.

How to play

  1. Open today's Wordcrawl and find the marked start and exit.
  2. Form a word beginning at the start, following the board's allowed letter connections.
  3. Continue with another word from the chain's current end and inspect the unvisited letters around it.
  4. Use Undo to revisit a route that strands a promising area; try to include more letters before moving toward the exit.
  5. Reach the bottom-right, review your coverage, and share or improve the result using the available controls.

Plan the next word too

Before committing to a long word, check its endpoint. A shorter word that leaves you beside several useful letters can lead to a better overall chain than a long word ending in a corner.

Try planning around the edge of an unvisited region instead of heading straight across the board. If a cluster looks difficult to reach later, investigate it while you still have a flexible route nearby. This is a general planning technique, not a solution path for today's letters.

Past puzzles are available from the menu, and a new board arrives each day. The game's illustrated introduction shows how a partly solved chain approaches the exit.
